Competitive beta glucan products in marketing often compare
weight of the beta glucan in milligrams per capsule (see one such bogus chart in
this section), or the percentage of beta glucan in a capsule A product can be 100% Beta 1,3/1,6 d glucan processed as an isolate of baker's yeast as is the case with MG Glucan, but be a small percentage of the volume or weight of ingredients in a capsule. The important factor is not the amount or percentage of glucan in the capsule, but the potency and ability of the glucan that is in the capsule to empower, potentiate and modulate the immune cells. If weight and volume determined power and effectiveness, we would fight wars with rocks instead of bullets, drive garbage trucks instead of automobiles and have the morbidly obese represent us in Olympic events instead of lean and fit athletes!
If not weight or volume, what does determine immune boosting capability of a glucan? As previously quoted from a recent U.S. Patent (U.S. Patent 6,476,003) based on major medical school research, "The greater generation and/or production of NO [nitric oxide] demonstrates the enhanced activity of the macrophage with a small particle size glucan which is indicative of an activity level of an immune system." Since small particle size MG Glucan at 3mg or 10 mg provides twice the nitric oxide as competitor glucans at 200 mg or 400 mg per capsule, the amount or weight of glucan is not the proper measure, often only indicating a large volume of inferior glucan. Note competitor websites often report lab test on the "amount" of glucan in a capsule, but do not report the extent of "immune response potentiation" by the amount of glucan in the capsule in various products!
The correct analysis would evaluate immune response potentiation created by the 400 mg of substandard glucan compared to the 3 mg of MG Glucan. The scientifically accurate evaluation would compare the "purity" and content of the 400 mg of substandard glucan compared with the 3 mg of MG Glucan according to industry accepted standards (BAM 8th Edition); including mold, yeast, TPC, coliforms, E coli and S aureus. MG Beta Glucan composition is continuously evaluated by an independent GMP laboratory with published results to assure optimum true purity and structure and to assure the absence of harmful yeast proteins, mold and other contaminants. But "purity" does not measure immune potentiation and modulation. Pure arsenic will kill you! So what is important in determining immune boosting power? It is important to know Beta 1,3/1,6-d glucan is a single composition extracted from the cell wall of baker's yeast; not two glucans blended together. The true "active linkage" of a beta glucan ingredient does not relate to the amount of glucan as a percentage of total volume in the capsule, but the structure of the actual beta glucan in the capsule, whether 3 mg, 10 mg, 40mg or 400mg. Measuring Immune System Potentiation and Modulation
This fact is due to reaggregation, or clumping in the digestive process of competitor glucans when exposed to water that yields a much larger clumped "bunch" of glucan (photo product comparison at left between MG beta glucan and a "Lanigan" product). Note in the photo, the "bunches" of reaggregated glucan in the "Lanigan" product similar to a "bunch" of grapes composed of individual grapes stuck together. This clumping together of individual glucan particles minimizes ingestion into the immune cells and immune response activation. The second essential measurement of immune system potentiation and modulation is the microbe killing ability of the immune cell resulting from nutritional activation of the immune cell by a specific form of glucan. Reduced immune cell ingestion and nutritional activation by a clumped or reaggregated competitor glucan means (1) fewer immune cells activated; (2) less potent nutritional activation of the immune response and (3) a slower and thus less effective immune response. You will not see this chart on competitor websites because it definitively illustrates the NSC MG beta glucan is vastly superior to competitor glucans. MG beta glucan is the ONLY glucan that utilizes a U.S. Patented process to prevent reaggregation in the digestive process to preserve the needed micronized particle size at the time of ingestion by the immune cell; not at the time the capsule is swallowed - a fact never mentioned on competitor websites. As an example, a plane never crashes before take-off, but develops problems during the flight that prevent a timely or safe landing at the hoped-for destination (for immune cells that is the small intestine).
In fact the immune cells must emit chemicals to attempt to break down the particle size of the competitor glucan after reaggregation or clumping, which further delays and reduces the nutritional immune activation and response by the competitor products. Competitors often claim independent laboratories or universities confirm this or that; but independent entities evaluate a characteristic of a given product as instructed in guidelines i.e., if you ask confirmation of the percentage of beta glucan in a capsule (not true "purity" as explained above) in various products, there is no argument 3 mg as a percentage of a 150 mg capsule is a smaller percentage than 400 mg as a percentage of a 408 mg capsule! While a garbage truck with a thousand pounds of spoiled food does not have the nutritional value of a 150 mg multiple vitamin capsule, NSC competitors using their evaluation methodology, would assert the food purity and value is greater in the garbage truck! The validity of the comparison is useless and misleading - volume and weight do not equate to immune potentiation capabilities of the actual beta glucan in the capsule.
Competitor Glucans One-Half as Effective as MG Glucan Why do competitors avoid immune response potentiation comparisons?
